Bazella w Riz
Bazella w Riz (also known as Lebanese Pea Stew) is a classic dish I remember eating almost weekly as a kid. It’s a hearty stew that you serve alongside Teta’s rice (i.e. white rice with egg noodle). It’s now one of my toddler’s favourite meals because its spiced simply and yet is full of flavour and texture. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 3 large carrots
- 2 cans of Summer Sweat Peas
- 1 liter Tomato Juice
- 1 yellow onion
- 4-6 cloves of garlic
- 1.5-2 pounds of lean ground beef
- Olive Oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- 2 cups of rice
- 2 handfuls of fine egg noodles

1. Fry diced onions and garlic in olive oil.

2. Add diced carrots and saute until soft.

3. Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and saute until meat fully cooked.

4. Add 1 litre tomatoe sauce and bring to simmer. Rinse peas under cold water, add to pot and maintain simmer.

5. Simmer until stew is at your desired thickness. If too thick, add more tomato juice. Salt and pepper to taste.

6. Fry fine egg noodles in oil until they change colour to brown. Then add rice and water. Bring to a boil and cover for a few minutes. Turn off heat, leave pot on hot element covered and let cook.

7. Serve together and enjoy!
