Hushweh Rice (Spiced Beef Rice)

Hushweh is another family classic that is quick to prepare and loaded with flavour. Often prepared alongside roasted chicken but can also be enjoyed on its own for a simple and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1.5lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 3 gloves of garlic
  • 2 cups rice
  • 4 cups water (can be replaced in part or entirely by chicken or vegetable broth)
  • A generous pinch of 7 Spices
  • Several pinches of salt
  • Pinch of pepper
  • Plain yogurt (option topping)

1. Saute diced onion and garlic until onion clear

2. Add meat and spices. Sauté until meat browned. Add rice and water/broth to meat. Mix and leave covered on high. Once brought to a boil, leave on element with lid on and turn off heat.

3. Wait 15-20 minutes until rice is cooked and no liquid is left.  Enjoy on it’s own or alongside plain yogurt. If you want to be fancy, add toasted line nuts and/or roast chicken to your Hushweh.
